India skipper Rohit Sharma opened up about the heart-wrenching loss to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final. Rohit expressed gratitude towards the fans for their overwhelming love and support, acknowledging that their positive words helped in the healing process.
The Men in Blue maintained an unbeaten record at the end of the league stage matches and went on to beat New Zealand in the semi-final clash. The hosts were considered favorites to clinch the title, but their hopes were dashed after suffering a loss in the final.
It Gives You The Motivation To Get Back- Rohit Sharma
in the video posted by Mumbai Indians on X (formerly Twitter), Rohit Sharma appreciated the understanding of fans who didn’t express frustration or anger but instead showed pure love.
“For me to see, people coming up to me and telling me that they were very proud of the team made me feel good, to a certain extent. Along with them, I was healing because I felt this is the kind of thing that you want to hear,” Rohit said.
“When they understand what the player goes through and do not bring out that frustration and that anger, it means a lot to me. There was no anger, it was just pure love from the people that I met. It gives you the motivation to get back and start working hard and aim for another ultimate prize,” he added.
Rohit Sharma emerged as the second-leading run-getter in the World Cup, amassing 597 runs with an impressive strike rate of 125.94. The 36-year-old batter provided aggressive starts at the top of the order, playing a key role in Team India’s unbeaten run until the final.
The veteran batter was not included in the T20I series against Australia and opted to take a break from the white-ball matches during the South Africa tour. The skipper is set to return to action during the two-match Test series against South Africa, starting on December 26.
