"I Was Not In The Best Frame Of Mind For IPL Season 2" : Robin Uthappa
Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Robin Uthappa in a recent chat with Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed that he was going through a tough phase in his first season for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2009.
Robin Uthappa played for Mumbai Indians in the first season but just prior to the 2nd season in South Africa he was transferred to RCB.
Robin Uthappa Was In Depression In 2009 Season
In the 2009 season, Robin Uthappa could not score many runs for RCB. He could manage just 175 runs from 15 games in the season. He did hit a half-century but that was the only high score he managed that season.
RCB had a great tournament, though, they finished as the runners up in the tournament.
Robin Uthappa returned with brilliant form in the next season as he scored more than 300 runs for RCB with a strike rate of over 170. He also hit 3 fifties in the 3rd season.
Robin while talking about his time at RCB with Ashwin said: “I was going through something in my personal life and I was completely into depression during my first season with RCB.
I didn’t play well even for one game that season. The only game in which I did well was when I was dropped and picked again. I played thinking that I really needed to do something in this match. Someone from MI had told me that if I didn’t sign the transfer papers, I’d not get to play in the XI for MI.”
“I was one of the first people to be transferred in IPL. For me, it became extremely difficult because my loyalties were completely laid out with MI at that point. It happened a month before the IPL and I refused to sign the transfer papers,” he added.
Robin Uthappa played for Pune Warriors India in 2011, he then moved to Kolkata Knight Riders and is currently playing for the Chennai Super Kings. He won the tournament with Chennai last year.
