South African cricket legend Mickey Arthur said that he will join the Pakistan team on a permanent basis for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 and a tour of Australia later this year. Mickey Arthur thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for allowing him to work with his county team, Derbyshire County Club, as head coach.

Mickey Arthur was appointed as the consultant for the Men in Green and will work online as he prefers to work with Derbyshire in the English county. Arthur extended his contract by three years as head coach of Derbyshire, which will end after the 2025 season. Earlier, he signed a two-year contract with the club in November 2021.

Najam Sethi Wanted Me To Come And Help Him – Mickey Arthur

Mickey Arthur revealed that Najam Sethi wanted him to be the head coach of Pakistan after taking charge of the PCB again, as they both share a relationship. Arthur said that he wasn’t ready to take the charge due to county cricket commitments.

“I worked very well with Najam Sethi when I was in Pakistan. He was the chairman of the board when I started. We had a bit of luck and won the Champions Trophy and our bond sort of grew from there. So, when he became chairman again, he wanted me to come and help him, but I said I wasn’t prepared to leave County cricket as this is where I am at my happiest,” he added.

Arthur previously worked as the coach of the Pakistan national cricket team from 2016 to 2019. The PCB decided not to renew its contract with Arthur after the side failed to qualify for the playoffs at the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. During his tenure as coach, Pakistan won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy in England and climbed to the top of the ICC T20I Team Rankings.
