Wriddhiman Saha pulled out of Bengal’s Ranji Trophy squad after being told that he would not be a part of the Indian squad for the home Test series against Sri Lanka. This has created a lot of debate around Saha’s future and whether he is thinking about possible retirement.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Sportstar, Saha clarified that he has no plans of retirement just yet and that he has taken a break from cricket. He is 37 at the moment and has the upcoming IPL auction in his sight.

“People take a break to have family time or for other personal reasons, even Virat Kohli took paternity leave. So, why are questions being raised when I decided to take a break from Ranji Trophy” responded Wriddhiman Saha when questioned on retirement.

Further speaking about retirement, Saha said that retirement will be entirely his personal decision. He last played in the Kanpur Test for India against New Zealand scoring an unbeaten 61 in the second innings of the Test match.

Retirement Will Be My Personal Decision: Wriddhiman Saha

“These are personal decisions. Virat stepping down as captain was his personal decision, so similarly my retirement will be my personal decision. Everyone has a start and an end.

“But I will not retire just because people have been talking about it. If the team doesn’t like my performance and if they drop me is something I can accept. But I will not leave if people push me,” said Saha.

Saha is well and truly the second-choice wicketkeeper for India at the moment. In the upcoming IPL auction, he can be a player of interest with several teams looking for a good wicketkeeper-batsman. So far the wicketkeeper-batsman has played nine ODIs and 40 Test matches for India.
