Team India are off to a dismal start with the bat against South Africa in the ongoing final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Both teams are currently taking on each other at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. Virat Kohli gave India a flying start by hitting Marco Jansen for three fours to take the score to 15 in the first over. In the second over, Rohit Sharma joined the party as well, hitting Keshav Maharaj for two fours in the first two balls of the second over.
However, the left-arm spinner had the last laugh as he sent back the in-form India skipper on the third ball to give his team the first breakthrough. And two balls later, Maharaj put South Africa firmly in the driver's seat by dismissing Rishabh Pant for a two-ball duck.
Maharaj bowled a flighted delivery outside the off stump and Rishabh Pant went for a sweep. However, he ended up miscuing the ball over his head before Quinton de Kock took an easy catch. The latest failure has further extended Rishabh Pant's poor show in the competition.
The southpaw has finished his campaign in the T20 World Cup without scoring a single half-century. And as the wicketkeeper-batsman failed to get going with the bat in the final, the fans were quick to take him to the cleaners on social media.
Here are some of the reactions to Rishabh Pant's poor outing in the final:
Brain dead rishabh pant what a poor way to get dismissed 💔 #INDvsSA

gambhir might probably end his white ball career altogether. deserves it though.
Rohit sharma and Rishabh Pant are By luck players only, you can't expect them to make runs in important matches and specially against good bowling units.

"If I had played 2023 World Cup Final, then we would have either been all out for 150 or 200 runs or would have scored over 300+ runs"

The faster Rishabh Pant realizes he is not meant for T20 cricket, better it will be for India 💀 pic.twitter.com/thgoJnST5Z

I feel sorry for Sanju Samson. Rishabh Pant got a full chance in this World Cup, and if you ignore that one innings against Pakistan where he scored 40+ with 5 dropped catches, he did nothing. Does Pant still have a place in T20I cricket? Poor Sanju Samson must feel really… pic.twitter.com/NfLCuYDW5M

Rishabh Pant talked about what he would've done in the 2023 WC Finals if he was there.. Either India are getting a big total or 150 all out.... Now we know.

Talking about the game, India were reeling at 68 for 3 after 9 overs at the time of writing this report. After Rohit and Pant, Suryakumar Yadav departed cheaply as well. The right-handed batsman, who had scored 47 runs in the previous game, was dismissed for 3 by Kagiso Rabada.
Axar Patel and Virat Kohli have managed to stop the rot for the Men in Blue and the team will be hoping that they convert their starts into big scores.
