India batter Prithvi Shaw opened up about his comeback to competitive cricket after a long injury. He said that he wasn’t sure if he would be able to make a comeback and there was a strange feeling when he resumed his batting.
The long wait finally ended as Prithvi Shaw made a return to competitive cricket after six long months. He faced a knee injury during a county stint with Northamptonshire and since then has been out of action, missing a lot of cricket in India.
After months of drills and recovery, Prithvi Shaw made a return to the Ranji Trophy. But he didn’t have the kind of outing he would’ve wanted in the first match. He managed just 35 runs in the game against Bengal but made sure that he proved his worth in the very next match.
Prithvi Shaw played a stellar innings against Chattisgarh and announced his arrival on the big stage in style. The batter slammed 159 runs in 185 balls, striking 18 fours and three sixes in his innings. His knock put the team in the dominating position and more so ever it lifted the monkey off his back.
Prithvi Shaw wondered about if he would be able to make a comeback on a good note or not. But after he spent time at the crease, things became normal for him. Speaking to Indian Express after his knock against Chattisgarh, he explained:
“I wanted to do well but somewhere I wondered whether I would be able to bat in my style or not. Kaise kheloonga (how will I play), when I would make a comeback and whether it will be on a good note or not. These were the thoughts that were going around. But after I stayed for a few hours, things became normal.”

“I wasn’t nervous but the feeling was a bit ajeeb – Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw added that he was nervous when he resumed his batting but he was confident of doing well and had a belief of doing well. He also added that he isn’t focussing on the future as he wants to give his best for the team. He added:
“I wasn’t nervous but the feeling was a bit ajeeb (strange) when I resumed my batting. However, I did a match simulation and was motivating myself that everything will be fine. My body language was fine. I’m not thinking too far off and want to stay in the present.
“There is no expectation, I’m happy that I’m back playing cricket. I have just come back after injury and just want to give my best. My aim is to win the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai and I’m trying to achieve that by contributing as much as I can going ahead.”
Prithvi Shaw now would be hoping to score runs consistently for the team and claim his stake back in the Indian team as well. The upcoming Indian Premier League will be vital for him to make his comeback in the national team.
