Former Australia World Cup-winning captain Michael Clarke is hoping that the India National Cricket Team keep faith in the 22-year-old opening batsman Prithvi Shaw.

Prithvi Shaw made a name for himself after smashing a century in his Test debut against West Indies National Cricket Team in 2018 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot. However, following his terrible outing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21, Shaw has been out of India’s scheme of things.

Meanwhile, Clarke lauded the young opener Shaw and labelled him as a terrific player. Former Australian cricketer even compared Shaw with former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who was an explosive batsman.

“He is a terrific player like Sehwag. Sehwag was a genius, who took the game forward. For someone like me, I love that brand of cricket. That aggressive batsman at the top of the order. That’s why Sehwag was one of my favourite players. I would like to see India keep faith in him, a player like Prithvi Shaw, knowing he is young,” Clarke said in the documentary ‘Down Underdogs’ on Sony Ten.

While talking about Prithvi Shaw’s poor outing in the Adelaide Test match between India and Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2021-21, where he was dismissed for 0 and 2 in the day-night Test, Clarke said that it was “very hard to have too much expectations” from the young opener and he needed more time.

“It was very hard to have too much expectations from Prithvi Shaw. He needed more time. It was his first opportunity in Australia. You want to give him every chance to see how he goes but unfortunately, he missed out in that Test match in Adelaide. It was his first tour of Australia, and I have no doubt he will come good,” Clarke pointed out.
