Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina talked about the inclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal in the India National Cricket Team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He said that it would be a concern for the team as to how to fit him in the XI for the tournament.
India National Cricket Team have included young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The youngster, who is yet to make his debut in the ODIs, was preferred over some of the big players, particularly because of his performances in the other two formats.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has developed himself as one of the reliable batters for India in the Tests and T20Is
Yashasvi Jaiswal has developed himself as one of the reliable batters for India in the Tests and T20Is. Particularly, in Test cricket, he has been exceptional as he has displayed incredible consistency both at home and overseas. Overall, he has amassed 1,771 runs in international cricket.
Jaiswal is unlikely to get a game in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 because he is picked as a backup opener in the team to captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Shubman Gill. The duo has done a great job as a pair at the top for India and would want to carry on that in the upcoming tournament.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, with the kind of form he is in, would surely give a headache to the team management. Also, with him being a left-hander, he no doubt will be a tempting option for the team, but finding a place for him in the team will be hard for the skipper and management.
There will certainly be a concern as to how Jaiswal comes into the XI - Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina admitted that it will be a concern on how to add Yashasvi Jaiswal to the XI. He said that apart from the opening batter, there is just only one left-hander in the XI in Rishabh Pant. Speaking on Star Sports, he explained:
"It is a valid question. There will certainly be a concern as to how Jaiswal comes into the XI. Otherwise, there is only one left-hander in the XI, which is Rishabh Pant. So then do you put Jaiswal at No. 3, or make him open, send Gill at 3, Virat Kohli at 4?" Raina said.
I would open with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill - Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina further batted for Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill to open the innings, saying that if Gill gets set, he can make big scores. He also stressed that Yashasvi Jaiswal will be important for Rohit Sharma as the second opener. He added:
"I would open with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. When Gill gets set, he goes on to make a big score. But Jaiswal will be so important for Rohit Sharma as a second opener, particularly if Rohit or Gill get injured.
