Yashasvi Jaiswal’s coach, Jwala Singh, has questioned the sudden exclusion of the young opener from India's squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Yashasvi Jaiswal was named in India’s squad for the tournament following his stellar performances in the Test series against Australia.

However, the left-handed batter was left out of India’s final squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in favor of the in-form spinner Varun Chakravarthy following his stellar outing in the white-ball series against England at home. Both Varun and Yashasvi made ODI debuts in this series.

Jwala Singh raises eyebrows over Yashasvi Jaiswal’s sudden exclusion

However, Jwala Singh was not impressed with the Indian selectors’ U-turn, especially after the skipper Rohit Sharma himself had praised Yashasvi Jaiswal’s form and potential, even hinting at his inclusion for the marquee event. The coach wondered about what happened behind closed doors that led to the young Indian opener’s exclusion from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Jwala Singh was quoted as saying by NDTV, “Yes, I think he was part of the Champions Trophy based on his performance against Australia in the Test series. I heard Rohit Sharma on multiple occasions saying he is looking good, and so without playing ODIs, you can include him in the Champions Trophy, and that happened, but I'm not much aware of what happened, why Yashasvi Jaiswal's name was not featured (in the final Champions Trophy squad).”

We have to accept the selectors' decision: Jwala Singh

However, the coach said that they all can only respect the national selectors’ decision and Yashasvi has a lot of time to prove himself, suggesting he continues to work hard for the next opportunity. Notably, Yashasvi didn’t have a great ODI debut, scoring only 15 runs in the first ODI, and later he was dropped from the playing XI against England.

He signed off by saying, “But yes, we have to accept the selectors' decision about what they feel, what kind of team balance they are looking for, and what kind of combination they are looking for. It's all okay because he's young, and he will improve in the future. The most important thing is respecting the decisions of the decision-makers, those are selectors, and we all need to respect that and wait for another opportunity till that time; he can work hard and he can get better.”
