South Africa National Cricket Team had a terrific start to their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign as they beat the Afghanistan National Cricket Team by a massive margin of 107 runs on Friday (21st February). The match between the two teams took place at the National Stadium in Karachi.
South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. They started very well with the bat, even though Tony de Zorzi (11) lost his wicket early. But after the opening wicket, the Proteas were all over Afghanistan with the bat.

Ryan Rickelton (103) stole the limelight with his maiden ton as he, along with skipper Temba Bavuma (58), added 129 runs for the second wicket that made Afghanistan bowlers try almost everything, but they failed.
After the wicket of Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen (52) also came up with the vital fifty, adding 44 runs with Rickelton. Aiden Markram (52*) then came up with the perfect finish as he slammed the fastest fifty for South Africa in the ICC Champions Trophy (33 balls).
Based on their effort with bat, South Africa posted a massive total of 315 for six. For Afghanistan, Mohammad Nabi picked two wickets while Fazalhaq Farooqi, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Noor Ahmad picked one wicket each.
Rahmat Shah fights hard for Afghanistan but fails to take his team home
Afghanistan didn't have a great start to the chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (10), Ibrahim Zadran (17), Sediqullah Atal (16), and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi lost their wickets early as their team was left reeling at 50 for four.
Rahmat Shah (90) kept his team in the hunt and slammed a solid half-century. Mohammad Nabi (8), Azmatullah Omarzai (18), Gulbadin Naib (13), and Rashid Khan (18) tried to support him but failed as South Africa bowlers were all over the batters. Rahmat, in the end, missed a well-deserved century as Afghanistan got all out for 208 to face a massive 107-run loss.
