ICC Rankings: Joe Root gets right on top in Test Rankings, dethrones countryman Harry Brook

England star Joe Root has reclaimed the top spot on the ICC Rankings for Test batsmen after his impressive batting display against India at Lord's.

The former England skipper scored 104 and 40 runs in the match to take back the top spot from his compatriot Harry Brook.

Root was England's best batter in the Lord's Test vs India

While Root impressed in both innings, Brook struggled as he scored 11 and 23. Root has now moved to the top of the ICC Rankings for the eighth time in his career.

At 34, he is also the oldest batsman at the top spot since Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara held the position in December 2014 at the age of 37. Thanks to Root's exploits with the bat, England beat India by 22 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

Australia star Steve Smith has jumped up one spot after scoring 48 runs in the third Test against the West Indies. On the other hand, Cameron Green has jumped up 16 spots to 29th thanks to scores of 46 and 42. For India, Yashasvi Jaiswal (5th) continues to remain the highest-ranked batsman in the Rankings.

ICC Rankings for Test bowlers:

Among the bowlers, Australia's Scott Boland has moved to a career-best sixth spot in the ICC Rankings after taking six wickets in the third Test against the West Indies. The right-arm pacer also picked up a hat-trick in the second innings.

On the other hand, his compatriot Mitchell Starc's ranking did not change even after his starring display with the ball. The left-arm pacer picked up 6 wickets for just 9 runs in the second innings, but has remained at the 10th spot in the ICC Rankings.

Australia now have five bowlers in the top 10. The other three bowlers are - Pat Cummins (third), Josh Hazlewood (fourth), and Nathan Lyon (eighth).

For the West Indies, Shamar Joseph has moved up 15 places to 14th spot while Justin Greaves has jumped up 15 spots to 65th. Alzarri Joseph has also moved up and is now at the 29th spot.

Jasprit Bumrah maintains the top spot

From the Lord's Test between India and England, India's Washington Sundar is up 12 places to 46th after taking 4 wickets in the second innings.

India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has maintained his top spot in the ICC Rankings for the bowlers. The right-arm pacer picked up 7 wickets in the Lord's Test, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
