Shubman Gill is now in touching distance of Babar Azam‘s top spot in the latest ICC Rankings, released by the ICC on Wednesday (October 25).

The Pakistan captain had the opportunity to increase the gap between him and the India opener during the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Gill did not play in India’s first two games due to dengue. Babar Azam, however, failed to make the most of the opportunity as he registered scores of 5 and 10 in the first two games.

He has scored 2 fifties in his last three World Cup innings but his lead at the top of the ICC Rankings has been reduced to just six rating points. While the Pakistan star is on top with 829 rating points, Gill is at the second spot with 823 rating points. Since returning to action after recovering from dengue, Gill has registered scores of 16, 53, and 26.

ICC Release Latest ODI Rankings:

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock, who is in red-hot form in the ongoing tournament, is also not very far away from the top spot. With three centuries in five matches, the southpaw is at the third spot with 769 rating points in the latest ICC Rankings.

His teammate Heinrich Klaasen has jumped seven places to take the fourth spot and achieve a career-best rating of 756 points. He has played knocks of 109 and 90 in his last two World Cup appearances. The wicketkeeper-batsman is followed by Australia’s David Warner and India’s Virat Kohli at the fifth spot. Warner has jumped two spots after scoring a brilliant century against Pakistan.

On the other hand, Kohli has moved up three spots after scoring a century against Bangladesh and following it up with a 95-run knock against New Zealand. Daryl Mitchell, who has scored 268 runs in the World Cup so far, has moved up 16 places to 13th overall.

In the ICC Rankings for ODI bowlers, Australia’s Josh Hazlewood continues to sit at the top. He is leading India’s Mohammed Siraj by just two points after the latter moved up one place. South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj has jumped two places to third and has attained a new career-high rating after taking 7 wickets in the tournament so far. Rashid Khan and Trent Boult complete the top five.
