More international cricket with a wider number of countries is one of the attractions of the ICC’s historic first-ever Women’s Future Tours Program (FTP) announced on Tuesday, August 16.
The FTP provides an overview of the international cricket calendar, which includes ICC tournaments as well as bilateral international series.
The women’s FTP outlines all parties’ international commitments until the end of April 2025, when the ICC Women’s World Cup will be held in India.
Some of the highlights of the inaugural women’s FTP include:
- Fixtures confirmed for 2022-25 ICC Women’s Championship
- More Test match cricket between countries
- A standalone women’s only Ashes series between Australia and England in 2025 (As per ICC Website)
India To Host Women’s World Cup 2025
Wasim Khan, ICC General Manager of Cricket, described the announcement of the first-ever women’s FTP as a landmark event for women’s cricket.
“This is a huge moment for the women’s game. This FTP not only lends certainty to future cricket tours but also sets the base for a structure that is sure to grow in the coming years”, Khan said.
During the following period, there will be nearly 300 international women’s games played, including seven Test matches, 135 ODIs, and 159 T20Is. Teams will play a three-match bilateral ODI series as part of the 2022-25 ICC Women’s Championships, before the next women’s 50-over World Cup in 2025 which will take place in India.
All bilateral T20I matches contribute to respective team rankings, which serve as the key method for selecting which teams qualify for ICC global events.
England’s next journey to Australia for the multi-format Ashes series is one of the highlights of the women’s calendar. It will debut as a standalone series in early 2025, with the comparable men’s series following later that year.
