Zimbabwe’s all-rounder Ryan Burl said that he takes inspiration from Indian wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant, who he will be squaring up against in the upcoming 3-match ODI series.

Ahead of the series, Burl said that he would love to have a chat with Pant, with whom he shares a lot of similar characteristics. Both are left-handed and have a penchant for scoring boundaries at will.

To be honest, I am going to mention Rishabh Pant. I kind of see myself in him. Probably quite short, stocky, left-handers that like to hit the ball. I’d definitely like to pick his brains for a bit, hopefully, and obviously try and outdo him in the boundary count. We’ll see how it goes,” Burl told TOI.

Burl recently smashed 34 runs in an over against Bangladesh which included five sixes and one four. He had said that his aim was to try and emulate former Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh.

“When you do get these opportunities, you have to kind of put your hand up” – Ryan Burl

Burl added that playing against India is a big deal as it allows them a chance to showcase their skills on the biggest stage. Burl will also be keen to impress IPL franchises and bag a contract in the big league.

It’s massively important. First of all, we don’t really get a chance to play India often. So, when you do get these opportunities, you have to kind of put your hand up and make the most of it.

And second of all, it’s opportunities like this – one of the best teams in the world, where you can showcase your talent and put yourself out there on the map for bigger and better things to come. It’s hugely important for us,” Burl added.
