International Cricket Council has revoked the demerit point given to Rawalpindi’s pitch. The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was given a demerit point by ICC after England vs Pakistan 1st Test in December last year.

The pitch was termed below average after the match, due to which ICC gave a demerit point to Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. In England vs Pakistan’s 1st Test, both the teams posted a 500+ total in the first two innings.

ICC Revokes Demerit Point To Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium

After Pakistan Cricket Board’s appeal, ICC revoked the demerit point given to the stadium. If a venue gets two demerit points from ICC, it can lose its right to host international games.

After PCB’s appeal, the ICC panel reviewed the match again and watched videos of the match. Since the panel concluded both teams were able to pick 37 wickets in the match, the demerit point was revoked. Earlier, ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees Andy Croft had termed the pitch below average.

“It was a very flat pitch which gave almost no assistance to any type of bowler. That was the main reason why batters scored very fast and both sides posted huge totals. The pitch hardly deteriorated during the course of the match. Since there was very little in it for the bowlers, I found the pitch to be ‘below average’ as per the ICC guidelines.” Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees had earlier said.
