ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Watch - Sourav Ganguly Backs 'Captain' Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli For T20 WC

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly batted for the inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the team for the T20 World Cup 2024. He believes that both are terrific players and should play for the team in the mega event. 

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have become the hot topic in the Indian cricket. Their participation in the T20 World Cup 2024 is one of the biggest things that is in the mind of every Indian cricket fan. The event is just 6 months away from away and there’s no clarity about the Indian side, which might prove costly. 

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli haven’t been part of the T20I setup since India lost the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. The duo focused on ODIs and Tests and in the meantime BCCI groomed youngsters in the T20Is under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. 

But now with the T20 World Cup 2024 approaching, Rohit and Virat making it for the tournament remains the biggest question. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was asked several times about the same but he didn’t give any clue and instead said that everyone will get their answers soon. 

Sourav Ganguly however, believes that both should be part of the team for the T20 World Cup 2024. Speaking to RevSportz, he said that Rohit Sharma should captain the team in the tournament and Virat Kohli should also be there because he is an outstanding player. 

“Rohit Sharma should be the captain in the T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli is an outstanding player – he should be part of the T20I for India”.

India just have one T20I series remaining ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. They will be locking horns with Afghanistan in the three-match series, starting 11th January. Half of the clarity related to the team for the tournament will be there when the squad for the series is announced. 

There have been various reports which have suggested that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be part of the series. The opening batter is also likely to captain the team in the series. The squad for the series reportedly will be announced on Sunday (17th January). 

IND vs AFG: Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma’s Form In IPL Will Decide Their Selection For T20 World Cup 2024 – Reports

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma reportedly made it clear to BCCI that are available for selection in the T20Is. The duo are expected to be picked in the series for Afghanistan but it won’t mean that they will be in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, slated to take place in June in the USA and the Caribbean from 1st to 29th June.

The reports in PTI suggested that BCCI will be keeping an eye on the form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the IPL 2024. If the duo don’t play to the potential the cloud would be hovering over their place in the team for the T20 World Cup 2024. The duo needs to perform well in the league to make their case strong.
