ICC T20 World Cup Schedule 2024 Announced As West Indies And USA Gear Up To Host Marquee Event

The much-awaited ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be played from June 4 to 30 next year, according to ESPNcricinfo. The tournament which will be the ninth edition of the competition will be played across the Caribbean and the United States of America.

The report stated that the tournament will be played across 10 venues. The USA will be hosting a global tournament for the very first time. Not very long ago, there were reports that the ICC might decide against hosting the competition in the USA but things are settled now.

Earlier this week, a team from the ICC inspected some shortlisted venues in the USA such as Lauderhill in Florida, Morrisville, Dallas, and New York. Lauderhill is not new to hosting international games. India and West Indies played two T20Is against each other at the venue in 2016 and will play two more games next month. At present, the USA is hosting the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC), the first high-profile franchise T20 competition.

Both Morrisville and Dallas are hosting the MLC games this year. However, the grounds in Dallas (Grand Prairie Stadium), Morrisville (Church Street Park), and New York (Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx) are yet to get international venue status. With the inspection done, the ICC is set to take a final call on the venues in the coming days.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be the biggest World Cup to date in terms of teams participating in it. A total of 20 teams will take part in the forthcoming edition of the T20 World Cup. Recently, Ireland, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea qualified for the T20 World Cup through the regional qualifiers.

On the other hand, twelve teams had already qualified for the tournament before the regional qualifiers – West Indies, USA, Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.

The format of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be different too. The 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five. The top two teams from each group will then advance to the Super 8 round. In this round, the eight teams will be divided into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group will then proceed to the semifinal.
