Australia fined for a slow over-rate
Australian Women are currently engaged in a series against India Women and are preparing for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will be co-hosted by both India and Sri Lanka. The second of the series was played on the 17th of September.
They have been fined 10 percent of the match fees for maintaining a slow over rate against India in the second ODI. The Aussie women were found guilty of having bowled two overs short of the target time after considering all available time allowances.
Aussie skipper Allyssa Healy pled guilty to the offence and was booked under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player support personnel, as per which players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over the team fails to bowl in the allotted time.
On-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Janani Narayanan, third umpire Lauren Agenbag, and fourth umpire Gayathri Venugopalan levelled the charge.
Smriti Mandhana's commanding hundred paved the way for India's comeback
The Australian women bowled first in the second game of the series; however, the Indian batters dominated with their performance, especially the opening left-handed batter, Smriti Mandhana, who outclassed the Aussie players.
The batter went past England all-rounder Nat Sciver to take the top position in the ICC rankings for women batters in ODIs. Mandhana was India's most promising batter, as she scored a stunning ton, compelling the Australian fielders and bowlers to reconsider their tactics.
India won the second ODI comprehensively by 102 runs. After Mandhana's century, the Indian bowlers had a commendable outing as the Aussies were bowled out for just 190 runs. They levelled the series 1-1 with this win. The last match of the series will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
India is eyeing their maiden ICC title in the home World Cup
India is eyeing their maiden ICC title in Women's cricket. They have been the runners-up of the T20 World Cup as well as the ICC Women's ODI World Cup, but have failed to win a major title in all these years. With 2025 being a year of first-timers across many global championships, the Indian women even have the odds in their favour.
This time around, they have the advantage of hosting the huge event and would be considered one of the most dominating teams under sub-continent conditions. Under skipper Harmanpreet Kaur's captaincy, the Indian women will be hopeful to end their much-awaited drought in ICC tournaments.
