ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024 Schedule Announced, India To Open Campaign Against Bangladesh

The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Friday (September 22), announced the schedule for the upcoming ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024. The tournament is scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka from January 13 to February 4.

Sri Lanka will be hosting the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 for the third time and the first time since 2006. The upcoming edition will be the fifteenth edition of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. The inaugural edition was played in 1988. A total of 16 teams will be fighting it out in the forthcoming tournament next year – India, England, Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Ireland, West Indies, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, USA, Scotland, Namibia and Nepal.

The 16 teams have been divided into four groups. The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage. On the other hand, the last-placed team in each group will compete in one more match against another fourth-placed team before concluding their campaign.

The group stage matches will take place from 13 to 21 January. In the tournament opener, hosts Sri Lanka will be up against Zimbabwe on January 13 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

A total of 12 teams will progress to the Super Six stage. The 12 teams will be divided into two groups of six teams each. The top three teams from Groups A and D will form one group and the top three teams from the other two groups will form the other.

In the Super Six stage, each team will play two matches. They will face teams from the other group based on their positions in the initial group stage. For instance, the top team in Group A (A1) will play against the second and third teams in Group D (D2 and D3). A2 will play against D1 and D3, and so forth. The top two teams from each group will then make it to the semifinal.

India’s schedule for ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024:

India are the reigning champions and will open their campaign on January 14 against Bangladesh who won the competition in 2020. The match is scheduled to be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Four days later on January 18, India will lock horns against the USA at the same venue. On January 20, India will play their last group game in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 against Ireland.
