U19 India player Raj Bawa break Shikhar Dhawan’s 18-year-old record in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022. During India U19 vs Uganda U19 encounter in T20 World Cup 2022, the left-handed batsman slammed unbeaten 162 runs. This has become the highest score by an Indian player in the history of the tournament.
With his spectacular knock, Raj Bawa also broke Shikhar Dhawan’s previous record of 115 runs. Dhawan had slammed an unbeaten 155-run knock in a match against Scotland during U19 World Cup 2014. Meanwhile, the record of highest ever knock in the tournament is registered with Sri Lanka’s H Boyagoda, who smashed 191 runs against Kenya in the previous edition.

Raj Bawa slammed 8 sixes and 14 boundaries during his blistering knock. Batting first, Indian opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi slammed 144 runs to give a fabulous start to the team. Later, Raj Bawa’s magnificent 162 off 108 balls propelled India to a gigantic total of 405-5 on the scoreboard.
Later, India also bowled out Uganda for just 79 runs to bag a massive victory by 326 runs. India’s Nishant Sandhu grabbed a 4-wicket haul while Rajvardhan Hangargekar picked 2 wickets. Notably, India was short of 5 players in the squad including skipper Yash Dhull, all of whom have tested positive for COVID-19.
With the victory, India has qualified for the quarter-finals of ICC U19 World Cup 2022. India earlier defeated South Africa and Ireland during the group stage. India U19 will now face Bangladesh U19 in the Super League quarter-final 3 clash. The match will take place on January 29 at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
