Former England captain Michael Vaughan heaped praise over India’s U19 skipper Yash Dhull for his match-winning knock against Australia in the semi-final of the ICC U19 World Cup.
India U19 team reached their fourth consecutive final of the U19 World Cup tournament after they hammered Australia U19 by 96 runs on Wednesday in Antigua.
Yash Dhull leads from the front with his stellar 110
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, in form Indian openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Harnoor Singh didn’t trouble the scoreboard much as they were back in the dugout in 13 overs.
Skipper Dhull and his deputy Shaik Rasheed joined forces to set a big score for their side. The duo was involved in a 204-run stand for the third wicket as Dhull scored a run-a-ball 110 while Rasheed missed the feat by six runs.
Dhull hammered 10 fours and a six, he smashed four boundaries to Australian pacer Tom Whitney, two in a row in the 45th over, before he nudged softly towards mid-wicket for a couple of runs and brought up his hundred.
Dhull’s stellar innings came to a halt after a straight drive from Rasheed ricocheted onto the stumps, with Australian bowler Jack Nisbet adding a finger to complete the dismissal.
Rasheed departed the very next ball after his captain was sent to the pavilion, the Andhra Pradesh batter had to walk, despite the referral from umpires as his catch by Jack Sinfield wasn’t clear but the decision went according to the soft signal.
India posted 290/5 in the first innings after Dinesh Bana (20) and Rajvardhan Hangargekar smashed 27 runs off Whitney’s final over.
