Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra highlighted that ace cricketer Hardik Pandya is among the best all-rounders in the much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023. However, Aakash Chopra expressed concerns regarding Hardik Pandya’s limited bowling contributions in ODIs over the past year.
Hardik Pandya has been named the vice-captain of India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, scheduled to begin on August 30. The right-handed batter will also play a significant role as a fast-bowling all-rounder in the World Cup, as he can contribute to the team with his bowling.
Hardik Pandya Takes Nearly A Wicket A Game – Aakash Chopra
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra highlighted that Hardik Pandya had bowled only 44 overs in the 50-over format over the past year.
“Hardik Pandya – he has played eight ODIs if we talk about the last one year,” Chopra said.
“He has scored 198 runs, including a half-century, and picked up nine wickets. So he takes nearly a wicket a game and has bowled 44 overs. So he hasn’t bowled even six overs per game, which is not a great thing.”
“If you see from India’s viewpoint, you expect more bowling from him or you need more from him,” Chopra further added.
“So, he is given the new ball at times. He has played 215 balls, so he plays 25-30 balls per match. He is doing a job, which is not a bad thing at all. So his name should be there in the all-rounders’ list.”
Hardik Panda will next be seen in action in the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led team will start their campaign by taking on arch-rivals Pakistan in their first group stage match at the Pallekele International Stadium on Saturday, September 2.
