Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis stated that he doesn’t consider the Pat Cummins-led team one of the favorites to win the title in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Marcus Stoinis said that Australia has a strong side, with all three departments well-covered.
The Australian team will start as the title favorites in the World Cup, which is scheduled to be played between October and November this year. The Aussies won the T20 World Cup 2021 when they played in Asian conditions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Australia Has All The Bases Covered – Marcus Stoinis
In a conversation with Boria Majumdar, Marcus Stoinis said that they have quality batters in their lineup, including reliable lower middle-order batters.
“I tend to agree with you that we have a very good side. If you take a look at each department of the game, you will see Australia has all the bases covered,” Stoinis told RevSportz.
“We have power-hitters at the top of the order who can set the tempo, we have some fantastic batters in the middle order and then we have a good lower middle order who can make tangible contributions,” he added.
David Warner and Travis Head would be their first-choice openers. Australia has the luxury of multiple all-rounders such as Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, and Mitchell Marsh. Alex Carey will keep the stumps in the upcoming tournament.
It Is A Well-Rounded Team – Marcus Stoinis
Reflecting on the bowling attack, Marcus Stoinis acknowledged that Australia has a strong team with impressive fast bowlers and skilled spin options.
“With the ball, we have fantastic fast bowlers and some very good spin options. So, it is a well-rounded team, and I would certainly like to believe that we will have a very good World Cup campaign,” he further added.
“Having said that, I don’t think I agree with the tag of favourites. There are a number of teams which are very good, and they have some very good players. So while we do have a very good side, these tags don’t really mean much to us as players.”
The Australian team will next play against South Africa in the white-ball series, which is set to begin on August 30. Following the South Africa tour, they will face India in a three-match ODI series in preparation for the World Cup.
