The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the schedule of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in India later this year, on Tuesday, June 27. The upcoming edition of the marquee event will be held in India between October 5 and November 19 across 10 venues over a period of 46 days.

The fixtures will be hosted in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune. The tournament will follow a round-robin format, where each team will compete against the other nine teams. India is scheduled to play matches in all venues except Hyderabad.

Sluggish Pitch In Chennai Against Australia

India will play Australia in their opening ODI World Cup 2023 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8. The historic stadium is undergoing renovation, including the installation of new LED lights in the light towers and the addition of two red-soil pitches.

The Men in Blue have played 14 matches since 1987, with a 50% win record. They have not been able to surpass the 300-run mark in any of those matches. The Rohit Sharma-led team lost to Australia in an ODI match earlier this year. The teams often chose to bat first at the venue.

Flat Pitch In Ahmedabad Against Pakistan

The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The venue, formerly known as the Sardar Patel Stadium, was renamed the Narendra Modi Stadium in 2021.

The venue has hosted 18 ODI matches since 1984, with the home team enjoying a favourable record of winning 10 matches. The stadium’s large outfield favours spinners, and it remains to be seen which type of pitch will be chosen for this crucial match.

Ahmedabad has historically seen low-scoring matches due to its black-soil pitches, which offer low bounce and slowness. The hosts may consider choosing a flat deck to counter Pakistan’s strong bowling attack and minimize their advantages in the league match.

Spin Friendly Pitch In Lucknow Against England

The Ekana Stadium will host a significant match in the ODI World Cup 2023 involving the hosts and defending champions on October 29. The Indian cricket team has not played a full 50-over fixture at this venue yet. They played against South Africa in a rain-affected 40-over game here, where they lost.

The black soil pitch at the venue favors spinners, and variations in pace will be important. The presence of dew in the early part of winter adds uncertainty to the weather conditions. India would rely on their spin bowlers for the match against the English, who perform well on flat pitches in ODI matches.
