ICC World Cup 2023: Can’t Say That India Is Favourites Right Now- Kapil Dev

Former Indian player Kapil Dev feels that we can’t call Team India favourites right now for winning the ICC World Cup 2023. However, Kapil Dev also added that India has a very good team. India has been dubbed by many former players as favourites to win the ICC World Cup 2023.

Since the tournament takes place in India, many cricket experts and fans believe that the men-in-blue will clinch the title. India is a very strong team on their home soil. Moreover, the last three editions of World Cups were won by the home team.

Can’t Say India Is Favourites Right Now: Kapil Dev

While speaking on the sidelines of the launch event of the 3rd edition of the J &K Open, former Indian captain Kapil Dev said that we can’t say that India is a favourite right now but our team is very good.

“I think if we can come in top four, that is more important and then it will be about a stroke of luck and everything. We can’t say right now that we are favourites, of course our team is very good”, the former all-rounder said.

India Is Ready To Play And Win Championships- Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev, who led India to its first ODI World Cup victory in 1983, also added that he only knows about Team India and has no idea about other teams. This is why he can’t term India as favourites. However, he reckoned that India is ready to play and win championships.

“Heart says something else, mind says no we have to work very hard. I know our team, I don’t know about other teams, so I would say it is unfair for me to give a blank answer…as far as India team is concerned, it is ready to play and win the championships…they should play passionately, enjoy themselves,” Kapil Dev further added.

ICC World Cup 2023 begins on October 5 in India. A total of 10 teams are part of the grand tournament. Ahead of ICC World Cup 2023, India will also face Australia in the three-match ODI series. IND vs AUS ODI series will observe games on September 22, 24, and 27.
