Young batter Will Jacks is hopeful of cementing his place in England’s white-ball team ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to be held in India later this year. Will Jacks emphasized that he needs to work hard to earn his place in the national team for the prestigious tournament.
Will Jacks is set to be rewarded with a place in the England team following his impressive performances in the Vitality Blast and The Hundred. He is expected to be included in the squad for the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand and Ireland at home before heading to India.
You’ve Really Got To Earn It – Will Jacks
Reflecting on his successful seasons in the Blast and The Hundred, Will Jacks expressed his hopes of being considered for the World Cup.
“I’d like to think my name will be mentioned in conversations for the World Cup. You’ve got to perform, work hard and it’s hard to get in. You’ve really got to earn it,” Jacks said.
“Overall, I had a pretty decent season in the Blast and I just want to continue in The Hundred to give myself the best opportunity to play for England,” he added.
The 24-year-old represented Surrey in the recently concluded Vitality Blast tournament. The right-handed batter emerged as the fifth-leading rungetter in the tournament, amassing 558 runs in 16 matches with an average of 37.20 and an impressive strike rate of 157.18.
There’s A Lot Of Opportunities – Will Jacks
Will Jacks went on to say that there will be more opportunities in 50-over cricket even if he doesn’t secure a spot in the World Cup squad.
“Even after the World Cup there’s some more 50-over cricket right after that. There’s a lot of opportunities for people afterwards. You never know, after the World Cup there could be changes in the squad, etc. Hopefully it’s going to be a busy winter but we’ll see.”
Following the ODI World Cup, the Jos Buttler-led team will travel to the West Indies for a limited-overs series. The visitors will play three ODIs and five T20I matches in the Caribbean Islands in December.
