England spinner Adil Rashid is hopeful that Ben Stokes will come out of retirement to play the ICC World Cup in India. The tournament will be played in India from October 5-November 19 with the final to be played in Ahmedabad. England and New Zealand kick off the campaign with the first game in Ahmedabad as well.
Meanwhile, reports of Ben Stokes likely to come out of his ODI retirement for the World Cup are making the rounds across various media outlets. The news was first broken by the British daily The Telegraph.
“Ben Stokes is prepared to make a sensational U-Turn and reverse his one day international retirement to help England’s World Cup defence in India this year, even if it means missing out on next season’s Indian Premier League” said a report in the Telegraph.
“The England Test captain now appears willing to play World Cup if he is asked by white-ball captain Jos Buttler,” the paper further reported.

We Have Won Two World Cups With Ben Stokes: Adil Rashid
Adil Rashid who himself has been a key figure in England’s two previous ICC titles in 2019 and 2022 spoke to the Daily Mail on the possible return of Ben Stokes.
“We’ve won two World Cups with Stokesy so we’re definitely a stronger team with him,” Rashid told The Daily Mail.
He further said that he is hopeful of Stokes coming out of his retirement to play the World Cup. The ace spinner further said that England would need his match-winning mentality in the big World Cup games.
“Hopefully he comes out of retirement. That match-winning mentality, especially in those big World Cup moments like we’ve seen before is why he’s so good. Hopefully, he’s fit enough and decides to change his mind,” he further added.
The ICC has asked teams to announce their provisional squads for the World Cup by September 5 and to finalize their squads by September 28. England are also trying hard to get back Jofra Archer for the World Cup who is out of cricket at the moment due to his longstanding elbow injury. He last played for England earlier this year in March.
