The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has reportedly appealed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for adjustments in the schedule of the forthcoming ODI World Cup. The HCA is currently planning special arrangements in case they do not receive approval from the BCCI.
According to the latest news reports, the Hyderabad state board expressed concerns about the schedule of the upcoming marquee tournament. The HCA mentioned that they can’t host back-to-back matches in the tournament, citing challenges in providing adequate security arrangements.
According to the revised World Cup schedule, the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Uppal is slated to host the New Zealand-Netherlands match on October 9 in Hyderabad. The venue will host the Pakistan and Sri Lanka match on the subsequent day, which was initially scheduled for October 12.
Hyderabad Cricket Association Expressed Concerns Over Schedule
The Pakistan vs Sri Lanka match was rescheduled to allow more recovery time before the game against the Indian team in the tournament. The high-octane clash between India and Pakistan was shifted from October 15 to October 14 due to a conflict with the first day of Navratri in Ahmedabad.
According to an ESPNcricinfo report, the HCA notified the BCCI about the Hyderabad Police’s concerns regarding ensuring sufficient security for two consecutive matches. The report further added that the BCCI has informed the HCA that they will review the matter and provide a response.
Hyderabad Cricket Association To Make Arrangements
The HCA is also unsure whether all four teams can receive sufficient practice time at the stadium. If the BCCI is unable to make any adjustments to the schedule, the HCA will strive to gather adequate resources, including security personnel, to ensure the matches are conducted smoothly at the venue.
Hyderabad was designated as one of the 10 venues to host the upcoming World Cup. The Hyderabad city will host three matches in the mega tournament, including two games featuring the Babar Azam-led team. The remaining game will be contested between New Zealand and the Netherlands.
Both fans and experts are concerned about the uncertainty surrounding the schedule and arrangements due to the delayed release of the schedule. The commencement of ticket sales for the World Cup matches is scheduled for Friday, August 25.
