India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma has made it very clear that he is more than happy to play on pitches that suit his bowlers in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is the 13th edition of the 50-over Cricket World Cup. The competition is scheduled to be held from October 5 to November 19 in India.

This is the first time India will be hosting an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup alone. They previously co-hosted the World Cups with other countries in 1987, 1996, and 2011.

Speaking to PTI during an interview, Rohit Sharma said that batting on Indian pitches is tougher than batting overseas, and as a team, they have decided to play on challenging pitches.

“Look at my recent Test innings in India. I can tell you that batting in India is much more difficult now than batting overseas, especially in the last 2-3 years.

“The pitches that we have played on, it is more challenging than overseas. That’s why we haven’t spoken about runs and averages of batting unit. All of us agreed that we want to play on challenging pitches. I don’t want to worry about what kind of averages we finish with.

“That is how I think but different players will have different thought processes, and I don’t want to change that. I am going to play on pitches that suit our bowlers,” he declared.

I am a person who goes with the flow – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma was further asked whether the captains have a shelf life, to which he responded by saying that there is no such thing. He said:

“There is no such thing as shelf life. You get a responsibility, you produce a result and more important is if you are happy with the responsibility that you have been entrusted with. This is more important questions than the shelf life.”

Rohit Sharma added that he likes to go with the flow and he doesn’t think too much about the future.

“I am a person who goes with the flow. What I feel right now, I would want to do without thinking about what I want to do five or six months later. I like to take things as they come but prepare according to what is in store in the future.”

Ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma-led India will participate in the Asia Cup 2023. India National Cricket Team will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan National Cricket Team on Saturday, September 2, at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele.
