ICC World Cup 2023: Jason Roy May Sign New Contract With ECB In October

England opener Jason Roy has said that he may sign a new deal with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in October. Jason Roy is expected to be a key player for England in ICC World Cup 2023.

The right-handed batsman relinquished his national contract with the England team earlier to play in Major League Cricket 2023. Roy accepted an offer of £300,000 to play two seasons of Major League Cricket. As a result, he had to cancel his central contract with ECB for a few months. His contract with ECB ranges between £60000 to £70000.

While speaking to United Kingdon’s PA news agency, Jason Roy said that he is in talks with ECB for signing a new central contract in October. He also informed that he is in constant touch with ECB Managing Director Rob Key over the matter and they are positive about the contract.

“Everything got left very well with England. They had no problem with me going to play in America, but the way they saw fit to deal with the whole situation was for me to do that and lose my contract for a few months. I’ll have a contract talk in October and then we’ll go from there.

The conversations around it are very good. I’ve spoken to Key Rob (ECB Managing Director) quite a bit. As far as I’m concerned, everything’s pretty rosy,” said Roy, who last played for England in the ODI series against Bangladesh in March this year.

Jason Roy will be a key player for England in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India in October-November. He faced a big setback when he was ousted from T20 World Cup last year. However, Roy believes that his T20I career is not over yet.

“I don’t think my T20 international career is over and the (contract) conversations have been along those lines as well. It was a disappointing year last year but I wasn’t enjoying myself, I wasn’t enjoying cricket throughout the year, it was a bit of a tough one,” the 34-year-old further said.

Recently, Jason Roy was part of the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket 2023. In 3 games, he scored 54 runs for the team with a brilliant knock of 45 runs in one game. Currently, he is playing in The Hundred for Oval Invincibles team.
