England pacer, Jofra Archer has been declined a spot in England’s upcoming World Cup 15-man squad after the 28-year-old failed to recover from his elbow stress fracture but the player is hopeful to make a comeback on the pitch after fully recovering from his injury.
Four years ago in the 2019 ODI World Cup, Jofra Archer was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament and helped England in the crucial super-over in the final match against New Zealand. However, following his injury, the player also failed to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season.
While speaking to BBC, the English pacer tried to give a positive message to his fans and said that he is alright and hopeful and that he is going as per plan.
“I am alright. I feel a bit hopeful as well, but right now I am okay with things going as per plan. You just need a little bit of luck and little bit of hope,” Jofra Archer said.
He’s been very unfortunate with these injuries: Luke Wright on Jofra Archer
While speaking on Jofra Archer’s injury, Luke Wright, England’s chief selector said that the 28-year-old pacer has been unlucky with the injuries.
Wright said that he will be traveling with the team as a backup member and will be included in the first eleven if he manages to recover from his injury fully and that he had to be put out of the squad since they are running out of time.
“We know how desperate we all are to have him – there’s no doubt about that – but we’ve also got to get it right for him. He’s been very unfortunate with these injuries.. regarding the World Cup, unfortunately, we’re just running out of time. Best-case scenario for Jof really at the moment would probably be [that he is] available for the back-end of the tournament,” Luke Wright stated.
England will square off against New Zealand in the inaugural match of the tournament on October 5th. The English will lock horns against the host, India on October 29th.
