ICC World Cup 2023: Kris Srikkanth Leaves Out Shreyas Iyer As He Picks His India Squad For World Cup

Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth picked his India squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. What caught the attention of many was he left out middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer and picked Suryakumar Yadav in his place. 

In the opening department, Kris Srikkanth picked captain Rohit Sharma along with Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, who also will be the second keeper in the team. Whereas Virat Kohli was amongst his picks as well in the top order batters. 

KL Rahul, who will be returning to the team after a long injury in Asia Cup 2023, was also picked by Kris Srikkanth as the keeper of the team. The keeper-batter notably has faced a slight niggle as well but is expected to be fully fit by the ICC World Cup 2023. He’s likely to miss the first few games in the Asia Cup. 

In the all-rounder’s department, Kris Srikkanth picked Hardik Pandya, who is the vice-captain of the team, along with Ravindra and Axar Patel. The trio is also part of the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023 and is expected to be there for the ICC World Cup as well. 

Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been dropped from the India squad for the Asia Cup 2023, was picked by Kris Srikkanth as the second wrist spinner in the team alongside Kuldeep Yadav. In the pace department, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur made it into his team. 

Kris Srikkanth picked Suryakumar Yadav as well and his inclusion was quite surprising because of his ODI record. The batter somehow has failed to get going in the 50-over format and has a really poor record in this format. Despite his poor record, he was also named in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023.
