Former Australia National Cricket Team World Cup winner Matthew Hayden has revealed his 15-man squad of the India National Cricket Team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be held in India.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be the 13th edition of the Cricket World Cup, is scheduled to be played from October 5 to November 19. The tournament opener will see the battle between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the final is also set to take place at the same venue.

The Rohit Sharma-led India will open their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai. This is the first time India are hosting the World Cup alone, having previously served as co-hosts. The ICC World Cup 2023 is set to be played across 12 different venues in the country.

Ahead of the tournament, Matthew Hayden was asked to name his 15-man India World Cup squad on Star Sports. The Aussie legend named Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli as his top-3, while Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav were the middle-order batters in his team.

Matthew Hayden surprisingly picked three wicketkeeper-batters in his India squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The three wicketkeeper-batters were KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson.

Although KL Rahul, who is recovering from a niggle, and Ishan Kishan are part of India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad, Sanju Samson has been kept in the reserves as an 18th man.

Meanwhile, Matthew Hayden named Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja as his three all-rounders. He then picked his pace battery which consisted of Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shardul Thakur.

The biggest omission in his squad was of the left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has been India’s most consistent spinner in ODIs this year. In just 11 matches in 2023, the left-arm wrist-spinner has bagged 22 wickets at an average of 17.18, an economy of 4.87, and a strike rate of 21.1.
