Kane Williamson is recovering from his knee injury slowly but surely. The New Zealand skipper is being monitored on a daily basis by team doctors who are making every possible effort to get him ready for the ICC World Cup in India in two months’ time.

Kane Williamson has been out of the game since injuring his knee in IPL 2023. He got injured in the very first match of the season and subsequently was ruled out of the tournament.

Williamson was not included in the Kiwi squads that were announced for the ODI and T20I series against England. The Kiwi skipper spoke about his recovery status post-injury. He also spoke about his thoughts on being available for World Cup selection.

Hard To Get Too Far Ahead Of Yourself: Kane Williamson

“If the knee is at a stage where that can be a reality, that’s great, but it very much is about getting it right and making sure it is ready to go when that time comes – whenever that time is,” Williamson said.

“It’s hard to get too far ahead of yourself, because you see something really good in one place, but you still know there’s a lot of work to do. If I end up at a place where it’s realistic because all these bases are covered and it’s ticked off by the people who know a lot more about it than me, then that’s great” Williamson further said.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead earlier this week said that Williamson will be considered for selection even if he misses the initial league stage matches. Williamson said that he would not mind doing the same.

“To potentially have that opportunity and use all those sorts of different, I suppose, scenarios to try and make that happen would be great. It’s still just guesswork at the moment in terms of when the day is or how it’s tracking at the time. So it is just about the now and I’m working hard to keep it moving forward” Williamson said on the idea.

New Zealand were the finalists of the 2019 ODI World Cup with England beating them dramatically in the summit clash. Four years later they will have the tough task of making the final again in India.
