England all-rounder Moeen Ali will make a comeback to play international cricket when England takes on New Zealand in an upcoming ODI series. The two teams will play a four-match t20I series followed by a four-math ODI series from August 30-September 15.

Moeen Ali who featured in the Ashes 2023 series is currently playing his trade for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred. He came back to Test cricket for the Ashes series with Jack Leach out injured but has promised not to come out of retirement again for the upcoming India series next year.

Speaking to SKY Sports from the sidelines of The Hundred, The England all-rounder spoke about England’s preparations heading into the ODI World Cup and whether they have enough white-ball cricket left to make the right preparations.

More Of A Mental Shift: Moeen Ali On Getting Ready For World Cup

“Not Really. There is a lot of white-ball cricket and so much cricket at the moment. You kind of mentally get ready and adapt your game and a lot of the guys are experienced and good enough to do that. We have done it in the T20 World Cup and now with the Ashes. It’s more of a mental shift and definitely doable” said Moeen Ali.

The English all-rounder further said that with a series against New Zealand and Ireland ahead of the World Cup, England will have enough white-ball cricket to prepare for the ICC event.

“There is obviously a series against New Zealand and Ireland beforehand, so we will have enough cricket and there will be enough games” Ali added further.

Moeen Ali then spoke about a few players who will utilize their time at The Hundred to make a strong case for their World Cup selection.

Ben Duckett, Liam Livingstone and there is of course Chris Woakes as well. He is back on Sunday. There is obviously a lot of players who want to get into the squad. The competition is so strong at the moment with all forms now that it’s difficult so you want to play and put your hand up. So there is plenty of cricket to get ready for the World Cup” Moeen Ali concluded saying.

England start their World Cup against New Zealand on October 5 in a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final. The match will be played in Ahmedabad.
