ICC World Cup 2023: Pakistan Become No.1 Ranked ODI Team Despite India Winning Asia Cup 2023

Pakistan Cricket Team have become the No.1 ranked ODI side as per the updated ICC rankings. This comes after India won the Asia Cup 2023 by defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Men in Green faced an early exit and ended the tournament last on the points table.
However, despite their poor performance in the Asia Cup 2023 they have managed to bag the No.1 rank. They attained the top spot after Australia lost the series decider against South Africa. The Proteas side won the series after being 2-0 down and ended with a 3-2 win.
India had a great chance to attain the No.1 rank in the ODI side but they didn’t cash on it. They faced a disappointing 6-run loss to Bangladesh ahead of the final, which is why they didn’t go to the top of the rankings despite winning the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka by a massive margin.
Australia have less chance to be the No.1 ranked ODI side at the start of the ICC World Cup 2023. The series loss to South Africa hampered their chances. However, if they whitewash India in the upcoming three-match ODI series, they will replace Pakistan as the No.1 side.
For India to reach the No.1 side, they just have to beat Australia in the first ODI and they will displace Pakistan and be the top-ranked side. However, if they lose the series by the margin of 2-1 then Babar Azam-led side will continue to be the No.1 ranked team in the 50-over format.
If India become No.1 ranked in the ODI then the Rohit Sharma-led side will become the top team in all three formats. They are already the No.1 ranked team in Tests and T20Is.
