ICC World Cup 2023: Robin Uthappa Picks ODI WC Favorites, Says "If India Can Get To A Place Where..."

Robin Uthappa, the former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, revealed who are the favorites to win the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.

While speaking to TOI, Robin Uthappa said that there will be a lot of T20I matches in the upcoming days since the T20 World Cup will be held in 2024.

However, he also said that if Rohit Sharma-led Team India can play a few matches before the ODI World Cup, the team will be finalized and the squad will be ready.

The 37-year-old said that the Men in Blue are the favorites to win the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023 since the hosts will get an advantage of playing in front of the home crowd.

“A loss in the series (vs Ireland) will affect the team very much. This is a T20I series and India will be playing a lot of T20 cricket before the T20 World Cup next year. There will be a lot of preparations. If India can get to a place where they have a few games left before the World Cup (ODI WC), they will have a team finalized, they will have an assured 15 members finalized, and they will find themselves in a good position. India at home are definitely favorites,” Uthappa said.

When Uthappa was asked about whom he will choose between Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, the former player answered the question and said that he will choose both of the spinners since they will play a crucial role in the ODI World Cup if given the opportunity.

Uthappa further added that he will include Kuldeep in his squad since he has improved his bowling style and always performed when he was given a chance.

“I would pick both Chahal and Kuldeep for the World Cup. Kuldeep is a much-improved bowler, and I would love to have him as an option in the team because every time he has got an opportunity, he has performed. He has performed out of his skin. I certainly think Kuldeep should also be an option. Kuldeep and Chahal are equally dangerous. Kuldeep and Chahal will be dangerous in the World Cup if given opportunities,” Robin Uthappa added.

In the upcoming World Cup in India, the hosts will be looking to win the prestigious tournament to end their long ICC trophy drought, and this time Rohit Sharma will play a crucial role since he will be the skipper and cannot afford to make any mistake which can cost them the ICC World Cup 2023.

India will start their ICC World Cup 2023 voyage against Australia on October 8th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The most awaited game of the tournament, India vs Pakistan, will be played on October 14th at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
