ICC World Cup 2023: "Rohit Sharma Is Getting A Game At The Moment Because He Is Captain" - Former Australia Opener Greg Blewett

Former Australia opener Greg Blewett expressed concerns about Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s leadership skills in ODIs ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2023. Greg Blewett said that Rohit Sharma isn’t the right candidate to lead India, adding that the team might not win the World Cup.
Rohit Sharma was named as India’s full-time captain of both white-ball formats, replacing former skipper Virat Kohli in December 2021. He led the team in the Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2021, and World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final, but failed to win the title in ICC tournaments.
Worried About India’s ODI Captain – Greg Blewett
During a discussion on WillowTalk Podcast, Greg Blewett questioned whether Rohit Sharma is the ideal choice to lead India in ODIs, citing worries about India’s performance in World Cups.
“I am worried about India’s ODI captain. I really am. Rohit Sharma is just clinging on, and I would have thought that India might have made a move by now on the one-day leadership.
I just can see it going wrong again for India. They always get to these World Cups and they just don’t get it done and I’m just not sure that Rohit is getting it done for them,” Blewett said.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member provisional squad for the World Cup earlier this month, with Rohit leading the team and all-rounder Hardik Pandya serving as the deputy.
Rohit Sharma Is Just Hanging By A Thread – Greg Blewett
Greg Blewett feels that Rohit Sharma doesn’t deserve to be part of India’s playing XI, highlighting that his inclusion is primarily due to his role as captain of the team.
“Virat as leader? I think he is done and I don’t know whether you can go back to him now. I don’t know, I just see that Rohit is just hanging by a thread. He is getting a game at the moment because he is captain. And I don’t know whether that’s the right way to go,” added Blewett.
KL Rahul is struggling for a spot in the Test team, Rishabh Pant is injured, and Hardik Pandya’s fitness restricts his availability for all formats. Virat Kohli hadn’t resumed captaincy in Rohit’s absence, suggesting that he may have moved on from that role.
