ICC World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma To Play At Number 4 In World Cup For Team India- Report

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are still out of the crease and the two batsmen are still not sure to take part in the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.

For this, the India team management is considering making the Men in Blues skipper, Rohit Sharma play at number four in the upcoming tournaments, according to a report by The Indian Express.

If the report turns out to be true, 25-year-old Ishan Kishan will make a partnership with Shubman Gill and will for India, and Rohit Sharma will come down to number four while Virat Kohli will stay at number three.

On the other hand, KL Rahul who plays at number five will go through a fitness test on Friday (August 18) following which Ajit Agarkar-led Indian selectors will take a call to include him in the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup squad.

KL Rahul, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper received a thigh injury while fielding in IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and after that, he was taken off the field and underwent surgery.

Meanwhile, there have been reports that say KL Rahul is currently in his rehabilitation process and already started his practice in the nets at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore but his inclusion in the squad will totally depend on the fitness tests.

Regarding Shreyas Iyer, there have been no official updates on the 28-year-old right-hand batsman who is likely to miss the upcoming tournaments for the Men in Blues. Iyer who plays at number four for India, went through a back surgery month back.

As per the reports of The Indian Express, both Rahul and Iyer are unfit and will not be included in the Asia Cup, they are all set to miss the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup as well due to their lack of playing time before the prestigious cricket event.

Rohit Sharma-led India to start their World Cup voyage on October 8th

The upcoming ODI World Cup in India will begin from October 5th and the first match will be between England and New Zealand. However, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blues will play their opening game on October 8th against Australia.

The high-voltage match between India and Pakistan will be played on October 14th at 2:00 PM IST at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
