Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has revealed his 15-member Indian squad ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023. The tournament kicks off from October 5 with India playing their first game against Australia in Chennai on October 8.
The former Indian cricketer has made some interesting choices amid a lot of talk regarding figuring out India’s best possible combination given they will play nine league games. In a conversation with Star Sports, Manjrekar revealed his preferred 15-member India squad for the ICC event.
Manjrekar chose to go with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as his first-choice openers. Ishan Kishan is one of the first names who did not find a spot in his squad. Kishan was selected Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023.

Manjrekar persisted with Virat Kohli at number three with talks of the former Indian skipper batting down the order at four. He included both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul who are back in the Indian team for the Asia Cup as well. As per recent reports, both are fit and had their practice sessions with the other team members as well with no signs of any problem. Notably, he did not choose a backup keeper in his 15-member squad.

Manjrekar further chose Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav as well in his 15. While Tilak earned his maiden ODI call-up on the back of his consistent performance in T20Is, SKY retained his place in the side despite not having good ODI numbers. Jadeja and Hardik were Manjrekar’s two preferred all-rounders.
Coming to the bowlers he decided to go with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami as his two pace spearheads. He also chose Arshdeep Singh and Mohd. Siraj as his backup pacers. In the process, he snubbed Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna both of whom are a part of India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad.
In the spin department, he decided to go with both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg spinner was recently snubbed from India’s Asia Cup squad as was veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. However, Manjrekar preferred Chahal over Ashwin as he completed his 15.
