Former India captain Sourav Ganguly feels that Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul will be good options to take up the wicketkeeper slot in ICC World Cup 2023. However, Sourav Ganguly also revealed why he likes Ishan Kishan more as the wicketkeeper for Team India.
Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of competitive cricket for this year due to a recovery process from a road accident. As a result, the men-in-blue will need a powerful wicketkeeper to replace him in the squad. Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and KL Rahul are potential wicketkeepers who can be picked in ICC World Cup 2023.
However, KL Rahul underwent a thigh surgery few months ago and has recovered from the injury recently. As a result, he is yet to make a comeback to the field. Ishan Kishan is another wicketkeeper but his role as opener clashes with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Sanju Samson, who can play in the middle-order, has failed to perform well in recent games and there are doubts over his current form.
I Like Ishan Kishan Because He Just Opens Up The Game For Any Team: Sourav Ganguly
While speaking at a recent event, former BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly explained why he likes Ishan Kishan more as a wicketkeeper than any other player. Ganguly likes Kishan more as he has the ability to open the game for any team.
“Pant is the best wicketkeeper in the country, but you can see Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul (depending on his fitness); these two will be right up in Rohit’s and Rahul’s minds. I like Ishan Kishan because he just opens up the game for any team. I am sure Dravid will keep him in his plans,” Ganguly said.
Speaking about India’s squad for ICC World Cup 2023, Sourav Ganguly said that India need a combination of experienced as well as youngsters in the tournament.
“It has to be a team of experience and people who don’t have any scars — like Jaiswal, Varma, Ishan Kishan. They can go and play fearless cricket. Rahul (Dravid), Rohit and the selectors have plenty of choices; they just have to identify and pick the best XI,” the former left-handed batsman added.
Meanwhile, ICC World Cup 2023 starts on October 5. Ahead of the tournament, Team India will play Asia Cup 2023. The tournament starts on August 30 and will be a key event to prepare for ICC World Cup 2023.
