ICC World Cup 2023: Sourav Ganguly Reveals His 15-Member India Squad For World Cup

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has picked his India squad for the all-important ICC World Cup 2023. The highly-anticipated World Cup will begin in just over a month’s time. ICC World Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played from October 5 to November 19 as India will be hosting the tournament alone for the first time.

With September 5 being the deadline to announce the provisional World Cup squad, teams have already started doing so. Reigning champions England and five-time winners Australia have already announced their preliminary squad for the World Cup and the remaining eight teams including India will do it soon.

While announcing the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that the World Cup squad would look largely similar to the 17-member team for the continental championship. And while only time will tell who makes it to the India squad for the World Cup, Sourav Ganguly has revealed his team for the upcoming marquee event.

Sourav Ganguly has made two notable changes to the India squad that were recently announced for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023. The India legend has dropped left-handed batsman Tilak Varma from his squad. After impressing in his debut T20I series earlier this month, Varma earned his maiden ODI call-up for the Asia Cup.

The southpaw, however, had no place in Sourav Ganguly’s World Cup squad. Another player who missed out on the team is fast-bowler Prasidh Krishna. The pacer recently returned to action after being sidelined with a back injury for almost a year. Sourav Ganguly also picked three players as reserves in his team including spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who failed to make it to the Asia Cup squad.

“If one of the middle-order batters gets unfit, then Tilak Varma. One of the pacers gets unfit then Prasidh Krishna and Yuzvendra Chahal for spinners,” Sourav Ganguly said.
