Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody feels that picking Suryakumar Yadav over Tilak Varma was the hardest decision for BCCI when picking the World Cup squad. BCCI has picked Suryakumar Yadav in the World Cup squad while Tilak Varma has been snubbed.
BCCI revealed the India squad for ICC World Cup 2023 on Tuesday. Rohit Sharma is set to lead the team. A similar squad from Asia Cup 2023 made it into the World Cup. However, Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma, and Sanju Samson were three players snubbed from the team.
Picking Tilak Varma Over Suryakumar Yadav Hardest Decision: Tom Moody
Sri Lanka Cricket Director Tom Moody feels that picking Suryakumar Yadav over Tilak Varma was the hardest decision for BCCI. While Suryakumar Yadav has failed to impress in ODIs, Varma has impressed with his batting in a few instances in the recent past. Both are middle-order batsmen.

In a video posted by ESPN Cricinfo on X, Tom Moody spoke about the Tilak Varma-Suryakumar Yadav scenario. Moody mentioned that Suryakumar Yadav is a T20 genius but has failed when it comes to ODIs. Have a look at the video below.

Tom Moody also shared a post to bat for Varma’s selection in the ICC World Cup 2023 squad.

Tilak Varma is part of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 squad. The left-handed batsman showed a marvelous performance in the T20I series against West Indies, ending as the leading run-getter in the T20I series for India. He was also part of the T20I series against Ireland later.
