ICC World Cup 2023: Tickets of India's Matches Sold Out In Just 4 Hours

The craze for the highly-anticipated ICC ODI World Cup is increasing with each passing day and it was very much evident on Tuesday (August 29). Ticket booking website BookMyShow crashed within minutes after the tickets for India’s World Cup matches went up for sale.

The ticket booking platform made the tickets available only for those who are Mastercard holders. The Mastercard holders were given the opportunity to secure tickets for the highly anticipated India matches in the upcoming 2023 World Cup, one day before they were available for the general public.

According to the ticket-sale schedule released by the ICC, fans can buy tickets for India’s warm-up matches to be played in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram on August 30. However, for the Mastercard holders, it was made available on August 29.

But the excitement soon turned into disappointment as the website crashed just minutes after the tickets went for sale. Furious fans took to social media platforms to vent their frustration and it did not take BookMyShow long to make things right.

High demand for India’s World Cup matches:

Soon after the website went up and running, the tickets for India’s World Cup warm-up games were sold out in no time. All the tickets in the pre-sale were sold out in just 4 hours.

“Today it was only for those who owned a Mastercard (credit or debit, India and international). Only two tickets per person was allotted and naturally, the tickets put on pre-sale were bought by fans within an hour,” a BCCI source privy to the development told PTI.

The schedule for the pre-sale of tickets for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is as follows:

24th August from 6 PM IST onwards: Mastercard Pre-sale – All Non-India event matches excluding warm-up games

29th August from 6 PM IST onwards: Mastercard Pre-sale – All India matches excluding warm-up games

14th September from 6 PM IST onwards: Mastercard Pre-Sale – Semi Finals and Final

The ticket sales for all other users have been segregated as per the phases below:

25th August from 8 PM IST onwards: Non-India Warm-Up matches and all Non-India event matches

30th August from 8 PM IST onwards: India matches at Guwahati and Trivandrum

31st August from 8 PM IST onwards: India matches at Chennai, Delhi and Pune

1st September from 8 PM IST onwards: India matches at Dharamsala, Lucknow and Mumbai

2nd September from 8 PM IST onwards: India matches at Bengaluru and Kolkata

3rd September from 8 PM IST onwards: India match at Ahmedabad

15th September from 8 PM IST onwards: Semi-Finals and Final
