Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly heaped praise on the 23-year-old Indian pacer, Umran Malik, and said that the youngster has a lot of talent in him.
While speaking at an event in Mumbai, the former India skipper asked the team management to let him play for a while and added that he has been taken care of well in the national squad.
Sourav Ganguly said that Umran Malik has a lot of talent in him but the pacer needs to mature as a bowler and that can be possible only if he continues to play.
Ganguly also added that the Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer needs to play Ranji Trophy for a full season and only then he can change himself and be a different bowler.
“Let him play, let him play for a while. He has been handled well, [came] quickly into the national team, can’t get quicker than this! He has enough talent in him but he needs to mature as a bowler, which will only happen if he keeps playing cricket. He needs to play a full season of Ranji Trophy. Come and bowl in 10 matches, 25 overs/day, he’ll be a different bowler,” Sourav Ganguly said on Umran Malik.
Umran Malik played his last ODI match in the second 50-over match against West Indies at Kensington Oval in Barbados. In which he failed to take any wickets and had a sloppy performance.
Umran Malik performs well in IPL than for the Men in Blue?
The 23-year-old bowler made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 2022. Following this he played 10 games and took 13 wickets with an economy of 6.54.
In the 20-over format, Malik played his first game for the Men in Blue in 2022 against Ireland and has featured in eight games, where he picked 11 wickets with an economy of 10.49.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Umran Malik made his debut in 2021 for the Hyderabad-based franchise and played 25 matches and scalped 29 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In the upcoming ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma-led India will start their voyage against Pat Cummins’ Australia on October 8th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
However, the Men in Blue will play the most awaited match of the ODI World Cup 2023 on 14th October against their arch-rivals, Pakistan at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
