ICC World Cup 2023: Virender Sehwag Names His First Five Picks Of Dream ODI XI For Upcoming WC

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag recently unveiled the first five players in his dream ODI XI for the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to commence on October 5. Virender Sehwag included three Indian cricketers, one Australian, and one New Zealand player among the initial five choices.

Virender Sehwag was a part of India’s World Cup-winning team in the 2011 edition. The right-handed batter scored 380 runs in 8 innings with an impressive average of 47.50 and a strike rate of 122.58. He was the third-highest run-scorer for India, behind Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir.

“They are all talented players and perform well in ODI cricket and they can win the games on their own shoulders. Whenever they click, their team will win,” Sehwag said.

Virender Sehwag Picks Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli

When asked to choose his first five players for a dream ODI XI in an interview with the ICC, Virender Sehwag named veteran Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as his first two picks. The 44-year-old also picked Jasprit Bumrah from his home country among selections.

Rohit Sharma will lead India in the upcoming ODI World Cup next month. The right-handed batter was the leading run-getter in the most recent edition of the World Cup, scoring 648 runs in the tournament. He smashed a record-breaking five centuries in the global event.

Virat Kohli, who is playing his fourth ODI World Cup, has a record in the multinational tournament. The 34-year-old scored 1030 runs in 26 innings with an impressive average of 46.82. He smashed two centuries and six half centuries in the ODI tournaments.

Virender Sehwag included David Warner from Australia and Glenn Phillips from New Zealand as his overseas picks. Warner is set to participate in his final ODI World Cup. Phillips impressed with his batting and fielding contributions for New Zealand in white-ball cricket.
