SA vs BAN took place in match 23 of the ICC World Cup 2023. The game happened at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. South Africa emerged victorious as they batted and bowled well and thumped Bangladesh by a massive margin of 149 runs to register their 4th win of the tournament.
South Africa batted first and they were off to a horrible start as Reeza Hendricks (12) and Rassie van der Dussen (1) perished early. But after that, it was about Quinton de Kock (174), who batted sensationally well and brought up his third century of the tournament.
Aiden Markram (60) supported De Kock well as he slammed a vital half-century. But the real blitz came from the bat Heinrich Klaasen (90) and his partnership with keeper-batter put Bangladesh on the back foot. They took bowlers to cleaners and smashed them all over the park.
The duo added 142 runs and made sure their side was on top. David Miller (34*) played a vital cameo in the end that powered South Africa to the gigantic 382 runs. For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud bagged two wickets.
Bangladesh didn’t have a great outing with the bat as they lost wickets in clusters and couldn’t get going. Litton Das (22) tried to play long innings but perished as South African bowlers were all over them. With Bangladesh being 58/5, Mahmudullah led a rescue charge and gave some hope to fans.
The senior batter scored 111 runs but in the end, the target was too much as South Africa bundled out for 233 runs. It was a disappointing performance by Bangladesh and with the loss, their chances to qualify look very slim now.
