ICC World Test Championship 2021–23: Updated Points Table After 2nd Test Between England and India
The fifth day at Lord’s saw riveting action between the two sides. Going into Day 5, India was on the backfoot having suffered a collapse late on Day 4.
Things started out poorly as well on Day 5, with the Men in Blue losing Rishabh Pant early on. However, the tail wagged for India, with Mohammad Shami bringing up his second Test fifty.
Shami along with Jasprit Bumrah stitched an 89-run partnership, with the latter chipping in with 35 runs. That set up a target of 272 for the hosts in two full sessions.
England had a terrible start to their run-chase. Both the openers were sent back for ducks within the first two overs, putting them in a terrible position.
Joe Root, the man in form, stood tall at one end till Tea, while two other batsmen succumbed at the other end. After the break, there was a massive moment for the visitors in the game when Bumrah had Root caught in the slips.
Curran became just the fourth English batsman to get dismissed for a King pair. Again, there was another partnership that kept India at bay before Bumrah produced a magical slower delivery to dismiss Ollie Robinson.
The last two wickets were then cleaned up by Mohammad Siraj, and with that, India registered their first win in the 2021-2023 WTC cycle. They now have fourteen points from two matches, while England has two points in their kitty.
The third Test of the series between the two teams will take place at Leeds from August 25-29.
