ICC World Test Championship Points Table WTC Table After India Vs SOuth Africa
PC:X

The India vs South Africa Test series was considered very important from the point of view of both teams, as it would take them above one another in the ICC World Test Championship Points Table. The match looked like a very dominating clash between the two sides.

India have completed two series in this WTC cycle of 2025-27. They first arrived in England to play the 5-match Test series against England, and the Shubman Gill-led Indian team managed to draw the series with a 2-2 scoreline.

They then defeated the West Indies 2-0 at home and have kept a strong resolve in the red-ball format with the South Africa series at home. The Proteas, who are the defending champions of the WTC, started off the cycle with a 1-1 draw against Pakistan.

India vs South Africa First Test was marked by batting struggles at the Eden Gardens

The India vs South Africa First Test started with the Proteas crumbling in the first innings, which seemed usual against the dominant Indian attack on their home turf. However, the real twist arrived when Indian batters also struggled in their batting innings.

The Eden Gardens pitch was never built for batting, as the pitch offered unconventional bounce, huge degrees of turn, and help for both seamers and spinners. A few cricket analysts also blasted the CAB for such an unconventional pitch.

India, however, knew beforehand that the pitch would be largely dominated by spinners, as a result of which they included 4 spinners in the side, though Washington Sundar was used very limitedly. 22 of the 38 wickets that fell in the game were all picked by spinners.

India fail to chase 124 runs in the second innings

This would surely mark one of the most humiliating days in the history of Indian Test cricket. Gautam Gambhir's era has not been the golden times of red-ball cricket for India, and with their captain down, India was left one wicket short in their chase.

Despite a man down, a team of India's esteem faltering in a chase of 124 runs looks completely daunting. India lost such a close encounter game back in England this summer, and now they have lost another game in a very short chase.

Despite a resistance from Washington Sundar and a late cameo by Axar Patel, the Indians were well short of the target as they lost the game by 30 runs. The ICC World Test Championship Points Table has been updated, with South Africa taking the second position.
