Oh, Ajinkya Rahane! What have you done? This would have been the collective gasp from the Indian fans as the vice-captain, after having played so well, holed out at square-leg against a Neil Wagner bumper.

It all happened on the 4th ball of the 79th over when Rahane (49 off 117 balls) decided to take on the short ball ploy by a bumper.

He got into a good position to play the shot but the problem was that he did not go full-heartedly with the pull stroke. But, instead of going for a full-fledged pull, Rahane seemed to have checked it as he wanted to the gap in the process.

But, he never bothered to keep it down and ended up giving the easiest of catches to Tom Latham.

It was a tame end to what was a brilliant inning from Ajinkya Rahane where he countered the seam and swing to brilliant effect, as you would expect, the Indian vice-captain wore a disgruntled look on his face.

The wicket couldn’t have come at a worse time for India as the duo of Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja were looking to ease into a crucial partnership following the early loss of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant on day 03.

With India now reeling at 6/182, the onus is now on Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin to take India to at least 220-225.
